Fabric’s ’sister’ club Matter had just announced the line-ups for the first 6 weeks, and (thank-god) it’s not just chart-busting superstars.
Of most interest is the fact that James Murphy will be bringing THE WHOLE DFA CREW over from New York for a party on the 25th October! Other acts slated to play across the opening period include Justice, Simian Mobile Disco, UNKLE and Late of the Pier.
They’ve also managed to get round the fact that it’s in the middle of nowhere by commissioning boats complete with bars and djs to ferry you there and back! Although how much fun that’ll be when you’re waiting an hour for a ferry at 5am on a freezing October evening I’m not sure!
August 18th sees the release of the very sexy ‘New Video Works’, over two hours of live footage of the best underground L.A. bands around right now. As well as those nasty people in the headline, the set includes tracks from High Places, Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda, Lucky Dragons, Soft Circle, BARR, Finally Punk, and more. It’s out on No Agers’ Dean Spunt’s label, Post Present Medium, and Amazon UK are taking pre-orders right here. Playing right now should be Erase Errata’s ‘Tax Dollar’, when that finishes there’s the tracklisting for the DVD and plenty more noise after the jump.
Ulterior’s excellent follow-up single to the mighty ‘Weapons’ came out last week on DiscError, and it’s even dancier and more manic. Check out the official video right here:
Oh, and don’t forget to come to Offset Festival, where you can catch DiscError artists Ulterior, Ipso Facto, Micron63 and S.I.N.S, as well as Gang Of Four, Wire, Metronomy, and a million other great bands. Take a look.
The headliners for the two days’ main stages are: YOUNG KNIVES followed by WIRE on the Saturday, and THE MACCABEES set on the Sunday night will precede GANG OF FOUR’s energetic and urgent closing of what’s sure to be one of the best festival’s of the summer. There are still a few more big announcements to be made - we’ll try and be FIRST to those for you…
With Metronomy, Prinzhorn Dance School, Fightstar, Tom McRae, Ipso Facto (I could list the whole line-up here it’s that good!) on some of the 6 other stages, your next pay-day should be the latest you leave it to grab yourself a dirt-cheap ticket for the best weekend of the year. Here are the ticket options, including one-dayers which have just gone on sale:
So - 150 bands from £45 for a whole weekend, some of the most vital bands in music history side by side with the bands who are picking up where they left off and dragging rock ‘n’ roll into the 21st century, and it’s still not enough for you? Top djs and DFA contributors Justin Miller and Jacques Renault have just done a scintillating new mix for FACT magazine.

Gang Of Four’s long-awaited new single finally hit the shops this week. ‘Second Life’ is a blast of stacatto pop that, along with the very well-received set at Massive Attack’s Meltdown, has shown that there’s a good future left in them yet. Despite losing the original rhythm section of Dave Allen & Hugo Burnham, the new line-up sounded fresh and taut to my ears, and Jon King is still one of the most exciting frontmen around to watch.
Buy the new single at Rough Trade - here are a couple of demo versions of the song kindly put up by Dave Allen before he left the band. And you’ve got to catch them live while they’re still this excited!

He’s punker than you. He’s so punk he’s been banging out 7″ vinyl singles for years, most of which are incredibly hard to find now. So In The Red Records has collected them together in a lovely package, Jay Reatard Singles 06-07, together with a DVD containing FOUR live shows, from Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Holland and New York. You can watch a track from the New York show after the jump, as well as check out the tracklisting for the CD, and Amazon UK is taking pre-orders for the set here.
Now we don’t usually cross the pond to bring you your news, but this is just too fucking cool to ignore. NYC no wave legends Teenage Jesus & The Jerks perform this Friday at the Knitting Factory in New York, bringing back the chaos of late-70s no wave for one night only. There’s plenty going on right now to celebrate: the Thurston Moore-compiled book ‘No Wave:Post Punk, Underground, New York 1976-1980′, a comprehensive Lydia Lunch DVD containing not just Teenage Jesus perfomances but also all her musical collaborations from 1978-2006, and hopefully on 6th August a definitive Teenage Jesus & The Jerks compilation! If, like me, you’ll be half a million miles away from NYC this Friday, try the classic video after the jump. It soothes the pain.
“Hello Everyone,The Young Knives have never been a cool band, in fact we have actively rallied against all things trendy, happening and London centric. We are also massive hypocrites and it is in this capacity that we would like to announce a double-super-trendy gig for our mega-hip management and media company, Scruffy Bird. The Gig is in Uber-wanky London venue The Star of Bethnal Green on 11th June and is a warm up for the Glastonbury mud-fest. Tickets are well limited to insure over subscription and super-exclusive-coolness so get in touch now to make sure you are not disappointed.
